I rarely post a video to Korean-World. Here's one I would like to share with you. While cycling on the recent training rides to Daebudo Island, I picked a day with a mixture of wonderful light rains, gusty winds, and clear skies. Cycling is a lifeline. It is a hobby turning into a mission to travel 1/2 way around the world in 2012, dubbed "One, Arctic to Argentina 2012" Supporting a charity is just as important to me, as cycling itself, so with a charity mission to support, and people behind/ahead of the distance on the bike, I will conquer something before thought to be impossible by many. It really comes down to riding 100km (60 miles) per day, back-to-back, and carrying on a normal life on the road. Perhaps, the look of the person becomes a little rough on the edges, but the spirit becomes more apparent, and the joy can conquer any pain that comes with long-endurance event. I plan to test my meddle, my stamina, my endurance, my will to help others. Can anything really stop me, perhaps only nature or God? But I will ask them to help follow me, and we will team up the entire distance, so you could say I now have powerful allies that can make riding a joy down in my heart. Great to hear this update (mobile too, cool!). I still haven't established a site, but have been featured in newspapers (Korea Times) and interviewed on KBS World Radio (30 minutes) with a video feed online, a few local newspapers with free distribution in Windsor, ON, Canada. The cycling and new foundation that backs me IDEAS - Intestinal Disease Education and Awareness Society of Canada - is going great. Robert Hill is taking a team up Kilimanjaro now, and finally completing his 7-Summit Series on Everest in the spring (he's a Crohn's disease survivor and founder of this wonderful society).

Reasonably priced bikes: Surly Long Haul Trucker, $1095USD +plus Tubus racks and Ortlieb panniers , check Ebay.com since your in the States, search for a complete package. Other bikes I can suggest to you...searching for a moment... This ESL teacher had a great idea and wonderful website setup, bought the Surly LHT and fully-equipped it, had the website going, then had a falling out with his co-rider and it completely vanished, he sold the bike (I saw it posted on boards in Korea) for little, and I tried to contact him without reply. Unusual situation, anyways, he provides a valuable list here:

RECKLESS COGNITION TOURING BICYCLE GUIDE

I decided on the decked out (racks and complete Shimano XT) 2009 Koga-Miyata World Traveller, from Eric @Commuter Bikes in Santa Barbara, CA. I asked for a scratch n' dent or charity discount and he provided two options, a scratched 2009 KMWT or 2007 KMWT at discount. If you want something beyond the ordinary, this is the machine without an engine. The 2007 models he still has in stock, so compared with the list above in recklesscognition... it's an expensive item, but built for World Bicycle Touring. For the Continental US, I would check the list and choose the best fit. Cheaper panniers and gear are also available through eBay, you'll need rain covers for all of them though, I haven't sourced anything beyond the bike at this point. I am leaving for Alaska in spring 2012, hopefully, more media and some sponsors will be attainable for the additional gear required.

Letter to Nicholi Bangsgaard who has cycled more than 50,000Km on his Koga-Miyata World Traveller ^^.

Virkelig, virkelig dejligt at høre fra dig (reaktion Re: Koga 54sm), fra en cykel LEGEND eller Nomad som dig, ikke mindre! I næsten fik nerve op til at sætte i fratræden på min skolefrafald undervisning post i Korea, tage et fly til LA og hente 54cm Koga, men det må vente (send dem en check, vil de skibet til en anden stat besparelse på salg skat). Min kone bliver understreget ud med mine tale om en Arctic Bike eller rejse til Argrntina, vi iagttog Discovery og så at redde en kvinde, som faldt i en dyb gletscherspalte, det var skræmmende Også hun mener, jeg vil dø, når der er anført på Koga. ^ ^? Jeg har aldrig vide med sikkerhed, men jeg har haft 5 cross-country motorcykel sprints over hele USA at hjælpe mine drev, men jeg er træt af forurening bor i Kina og Korea nu for i alt 5 år, mine lunger har taget et bankende , kræft ville ikke være for langt fra virkeligheden for mig virkelig. Jeg vil Linköping Universitet starter denne august (online-læring), som er nabo til dit hjemland, og jeg brugte til at køre en gammel amerikansk 1975 Jeep CJ-5 fra Windsor, Ontario ... til Vancouver Island, BC til San Diego Californien med et DK klistermærke på min kofanger! Jeg dateret en Norweigan mange år siden (1998-1999), men jeg har aldrig været at Eurpoe. Vi stod op i morges og begyndte at se episoder af "A Long Way Round" med Ewan McGregor og Charlie Boorman, syntes alt for let eller frustrerende i mudret pletter på de enorme gas-guzzeling BMW GS's. I met Nicholi Bangsgaard as many cyclists do, through blogging and facebook. So glad to meet him a half a year ago, he is currently cycling into his 50,000th Km mark Solo from Denmark. He has setup an excellent site, complete with timely blog entries, informatics for accommodations now moving through the USA, and great photos. He's a pure-blood Adventurer, he sharing it all & asking for PayPal donations [days for sale] based on a clever calculation of distance vs. cents [.17 cents USD or .13 Euro per Km]. Make a small donation today, I'm sure Nic will appreciate the donation. You'll be added to his Hall of Fame & become a part of his journey. Also, Nicholi is successful at what he is doing, a model for other adventurers wishing to strike out on two-wheels, follow his adventure and you'll learn so much!
