Let's start with an introduction to Sub 24-hour Overnight Adventures (S24O) or Micro Adventures.

S24O is a style of bicycle camping promoted by Grant Petersen of Rivendell Bicycle Works as an easy way to spend more time outside on a bike. Unlike conventional touring, the s24o encourages going on short (sub twenty-four hour) camping trips. The logic being that if it is short and uncomplicated, it is easier to arrange and easier to make happen. Typically this happens on bicycles and only necessary gear is brought.

Next: a very Cold, cold, cold...S24O mountain mission, Gangwon-do, South Korea.

 My Blackcat MTB Tour lined up with An Dae Gi's line of excellent machines 

(I wish I owned a few more of them myself...)

 It's sad to see logging trucks coming out of Gangneung, Korea has the potential to well forested, but only the new growth will remain.

 Hwy 215 from Gangneung City, Gangwon Province, South Korea ---about 26km up the mountain you'll find this amazing coffee house.

 Roads were amazingly clear, the record low temperatures made for Adventure Cycling at the heart of Korea (-17.0℃)

 Cold weather, mountain hammer, 1200 meters, about 60 kilometers return to home in 24 hours, camped on a snowed over farm, highlight at reported -17 Celsius, 

living on the edge...while still so close to home! 

 "Headgear", the record lows were definitely a surprise last night, good weather for survival missions to improve the edge of Adventure Cycling http://korean-world.blogspot.com  Last night was a whopping -20.0℃ ...steam from the sleeping bag crystallized in the air just opening to dry out my Merino base layer (: Damn!

 Mountain rivers never stop moving in Gangwon Province, South Korea. Yongpyeong 

 Winter wonderland, ice, snow and icy mountain rivers that continue to flow, 

my dream adventure in 24 hours

 It turned into a night mission to get to level fields, was completely soaked in sweat when I finally got there to setup camp / cook pasta / lockup / prepare for a long, long, cold, cold night - I also sent updates to Facebook directly through mobile (2G) text message.

S24O (Sub-24 hour Overnight Adventure...)

 Steam from my wet merino base layers turns into instant crystals, it was -20 Celsius outside the tent

 S24O - Sub-24 Hour Overnight Micro-Adventure. Survived it! 

 The camp, choose your farming field with 2 foot snow pack. I dug a hole in front of the tent to cook pasta + reheat sauce (:

 2008 Blackcat, a Made in China MTB, now customized with a mix of 2008 components (FOX RL, Avid BB7, Mavic wheels, Make-it-yourself front rack, Topeak Supertourer Disc DX rear carrier rack, Shimano LX dual control brakes/rapid fire shifters, Bontrager Race handlebars, Shimano SLX 175mm crankset, Shimano Dura-Ace 9-speed chain, Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tour tires, Happy rides (:

 Shoes were frozen stiff, worked them in with more riding this morning, warmed up with more cappuccino & hot chocolate (:

 Bike-Camping in Gangwon-do. It's simple. Take an Express Bus to Gangneung and ride Hwy 35 and 415
